Family Secrets

    "Family Secrets" is a series of photographs and handmade books about the members of my family. I have completed books about my maternal grandparents and my mother. Each is digitally printed and encased in a handmade box. The form and embellishment of the box reflects my impressions of the person.

   
    The books and the photographs representing my parents are denser and more complex since the images I have created for my grandparents are mostly visual interpretations of long-ago memories. Although the images are not fictional, I must reconstruct objects that have disappeared, and childhood memories that have faded.

   
    The books and photographs reflect different memories and different aspects of both the personality of the person and my relationship to them. I have tried to be as honest as possible in this work, and not slip into nostalgia. The books and the photographs complement each other. If the photographs sometimes tilt towards romanticism, the text provides and antidote.
